Upcoming Events

Upcoming events in our church community:

Beloved Community Sunday – September 29

We will celebrate one of our two annual Beloved Community Sundays on September 29.  On these Sundays, after our worship service, we organize groups of 6-8 people from the church to eat together at the home of an individual member of the congregation.  We do this to build church community, offer hospitality to one another, and have table fellowship together in intentionally diverse groups.  We do this event in September and then again on MLK Weekend in January.

Silence and Prayer Retreat – Sunday Oct. 13 to Monday Oct. 14

Our annual silence and prayer retreat is nearly upon us as well.  For this event, we usually take about 10-12 adults in the congregation that are interested to the Hermitage Retreat Center in Michigan (about a 2-hour drive away) for 24 hours of quiet and prayer.  At the Hermitage we engage in a lot of walking in their woods and meadows, participating in their Taize music service, and just having some time to unplug from our busy, urban lives and ‘be still’ in God’s presence.  We leave on Sunday afternoon Oct. 13 after the worship service and return to Chicago on Monday evening Oct. 14th at 5:00 p.m.  The 14th is the Columbus Day holiday which allows some members of our community some additional flexibility to be able to attend.  We also like to go on this weekend as the fall colors in Michigan are usually right near their peak.
